How Much Does Professional Driveway Cleaning Cost?

One of the most common questions we're asked by new clients to Squeaky is:

"How much will it cost to clean my driveway?"

The honest answer is that every driveway is different.

A small driveway that receives regular maintenance requires a very different amount of work compared to a large block paved driveway that's been left untouched for years.

Rather than offering fixed prices that may not reflect the work involved, we provide tailored quotations based on your individual property.

We also have our online “estimator” to give you a rough indication of what it might cost to have your driveway cleaned by us.

The cost depends on factors such as:

  • The size of the driveway.
  • The surface material.
  • The amount of moss, algae and weed growth.
  • Oil, rust or other specialist stains.
  • Whether block paving requires re-sanding.
  • Ease of access.
  • The overall condition of the driveway.

By assessing these factors individually, we're able to provide a quotation that's both fair and accurate.

Why we're not always the cheapest

There will always be somebody willing to clean a driveway for less.

But professional driveway cleaning isn't simply about spending an hour with a pressure washer.

It's about understanding different surfaces, choosing the correct cleaning method, carrying out the preparation properly and taking the time to achieve a result you'll be proud of.

Our customers don't choose us because we're the cheapest.

They choose us because they trust us to do the job properly, with proper communication to achieve proper results.

Tarmac Driveway Cleaning & Sealing

Restoring colour and improving kerb appeal

Tarmac is incredibly durable, but like any outdoor surface, it gradually weathers over time.

UV exposure, traffic, algae and everyday dirt slowly leave the surface looking faded and patchy.

Many people assume the only solution is replacement.

Often, it isn't.

Professional cleaning can remove years of contamination, revealing a much fresher appearance underneath.

For suitable driveways, professional tarmac restoration sealer can also revive the rich black or even red finish while providing additional protection against weathering.

If we genuinely believe your driveway would benefit from sealing, we'll explain the options honestly without any pressure.

When should tarmac not be sealed?

Older tarmac can become softer with age

The aggregate loosens and begin to break up

This is especially the case when when left to get mossy or where alot of “dry steering” is happening on the driveway

Where car are parked or continuously turned in the same spot the taramc begins to crumble which if left for a very long time without sealing make the driveway unsuitable for sealing products

The red driveway in the image is acutally 20 years old according to the home owner.

The picture does look great, and benifits from alot of direct sunlight which meant that the driveway didn't suffer with alot of moss

That's why we adjust our cleaning methods to suit the condition of the surface rather than using the same pressure everywhere.

How much does Tarmac Sealing cost?

As a rough guide cost of 2 car standard tarmac driveway sealing is 3.5 times the cost of the cleaning in 2026

So if a tarmac driveway cost £200 to clean

The cost to Clean & Seal the tarmac driveway would be roughly £700

The process is broken down into the initial cleaning

Sealing when the tarmac is dry which is typically completed 1 day later

Cost of the sealer which make up £180

With some consumables cost in rollers, gloves, brushes and tapes

Along with the time taken to complete the job to the correct standard

Block Paving Driveway Jet Washing

Block paving is one of the most popular traditional driveway surfaces available, but it's also one of the most vulnerable to moss and weeds

Over time, dirt settles into the gaps of the blocks and turns the sand between the gaps into a silty type of material perfect for moss

Add a little shade and moisture, and what was once a beautiful driveway can quickly become discoloured, mossy and tired-looking.

Professional exterior cleaning removes years of built-up contamination and dramatically improves the appearance of the driveway.

However, the cleaning itself is only part of the process.

Why re-sanding matters

One thing many homeowners don't realise is that pressure washing naturally removes much of the jointing sand between the blocks.

That sand isn't just there for appearance.

It helps hold the blocks firmly together, reducing movement and supporting the overall structure of the driveway.

Once the paving has dried, the typical process to resand the driveway with a kiln dried sand

It's a simple step that makes a huge difference to both the appearance and long-term stability of the paving.

OPTIONAL EXTRA: Polymeric sand

There are now very effective polymeric sands that when installed on block paving are resistant to pressure washing and weeds (the important word here is resistant)

They brush in, just like the typical kiln dried sand and once activated, cure hard to the touch within 24 hours

This makes the gaps between  the blook paving hard allowing future cleaning to be easier and a slightly improves the ease of future maintenance as re-sanding is not always required after cleaning.

Whereas usual kiln dried sand likes to get mossy and has a tendency to wash out with heavy rains

Why We Don't Recommend Sealing Block Paving

If you've been researching driveway cleaning, you've probably seen companies recommending block paving sealing as the final step after cleaning.

It sounds appealing.

Protect the paving.

Prevent weeds.

Keep it looking cleaner for longer.

In theory, it makes perfect sense.

In practice, our experience has led us to a different conclusion.

Our experience

The expectation for what sealing will protect and prevent is worth considering.

If your driveway is already suffering from weeds, they will come back even with the sealers applied as early as a few weeks after application.

Over the years, we've seen many block paved driveways that have previously been sealed. (and driveways we had sealed too...)

They look fantastic initially after sealing.

But unfortunately, we've also seen a significant number where the sealer has:

  • Turned white or cloudy (often called blooming)
  • Started peeling or flaking
  • Worn away unevenly
  • Left patchy finishes that are difficult to correct in patches

What we recommend instead

We believe the best long term sustainable results usually come from:

  • regular cleaning or driveway chemical treatments for cleaning
  • Treating moss, algae and organic growth where appropriate as it develops and not when it get "really mossy"
  • Re-sanding the joints with a polymeric setting sand (helps prevent weeds entering gaps and moss devoloping)
  • Periodic maintenance cleaning before heavy contamination returns (having regular home care plan)

It's a simpler approach, but in our experience it provides more consistent, cost effective and longer lasting results without introducing unnecessary risks that come with sealing used water or solvent based clear or gloss sealers on block paving.

Typically sealer can be quite expensive for block paving in particular because the coverage per litre is very low
